1860s Undergarments

It’s all about the foundations!

In order to create the right silhouette for my late 1860s Changeable Gown, I created an entire suite of undergarments. This included two chemises, a pair of drawers, a corset, a cage crinoline, and a petticoat.

These projects were documented on my YouTube channel!

Patterns and Supplies

  • Pattern- RedThreaded - I also used their corset kit to construct this piece (I added the silk jacquard on top). I really like RedThreaded Patterns for making corsets. They go together really easily and happen to fit me very well.

  • Pattern- Truly Victorian TV 103

    Supplies- Truly Victorian

This pattern when together easily with the coordinating supplies. Cage crinolines are, by their nature, beasts to construct but Truly Victorian made it much better.

  • First Chemise- Pattern- possibly the worst pattern I have ever had to deal with. Proceed with caution. All of the pieces are scaled differently.

Second Chemise- Self-drafted with pieces from the first chemise.

Drawers- Truly Victorian TV 106- Want an easy way to make an 1860s undies set? Try these.

  • Constructed from bulk cotton I found on FB Marketplace (seriously try it). This petticoat is a series of log rectangles gathered down into a waistband.
