Changeable Gown, 1865-1868

Design for a late 1860s changeable gown

This dress was inspired by originals I worked with during my internship with the Minnesota Historical Society. Changeable gowns were and are a great way of utilizing one skirt (made of many years of fabric) for several different looks.

This ensemble consists of a skirt, day bodice, evening bodice, and decorative belt. It is made from a red striped silk taffeta with accents of gold satin piping and gold fringe.
